Former Black Stars international John Paintsil has made a stark revelation that it was never his dream to play for the senior national team of Ghana.
John Paintsil, who was speaking on the Black Stars Classics on Max TV, gave details of how he joined the Black Stars of Ghana. He said he never thought of playing for the national team and that playing football initially was for only fun but was not to seek for any position in the national team.
The Former Black Stars defender said , “Honestly speaking, I think even when I was in camp I didn’t know I was fighting for a position, I was just playing for fun.”
“I didn’t know what I was doing. I was just enjoying myself playing football. Oh yes, I never thought or dreamt of playing for the national team,” John Paintsil further added.
John Paintsil made 89 appearances for the national team between 2001- 2013.
As a member of Ghana’s silver-winning side at the 2001 Fifa U20 World Cup in Argentina, Paintsil helped Ghana qualify for the senior World Cup for the first time in 2006.
He played at the final tournament in Germany and made a second appearance at the 2010 edition in South Africa.
